article imagePGA: 'Her' is in while 'Fruitvale Station' gets special award

Los Angeles - The award season buzz and hype is here but many seem to get caught up in certain ones and ignore two very important groups. Those would be the Producers Guild of America (PGA) and The Directors Guild of America (DGA) nominations.
Sure, slobber over the Golden Globes or the others, but a more reliable and professional way of heading into the Oscars is following these two. The PGA announced their nominations today (Jan. 2).
In its 24 years in existence, the PGA winner has gone on to win Best Picture come Oscar time 17 times, and for the last six years straight. When one looks at the Golden Globes, they have, in a sense, two best pictures, since they split drama and comedy/musical. That tends to muddy the results a bit. Throw in animation and there is another (in many award shows). And animated film has its own category but, for Oscar, can also get nominated for Best Picture.
Left out here in "The Butler" and "Inside Llewyn Davis," while "Her" gets a spot as does "Blue Jasmine." "The Wolf of Wall Street" makes it despite this one splitting critics and crowds alike.
Since this is the producers (and the money behind the movies), it is only fair to name them.

The PGA also recently announced that "Fruitvale Station" will be honored with the 2014 Stanley Kramer Award at the 25th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony.
It honors the achievement or contribution which illuminates and raises public awareness of important social issues.
"Fruitvale Station" is an important film that raises awareness about an injustice that we encounter in the news with grim regularity. First time writer/director Ryan Coogler has captured the hearts and minds of both audiences and critics with his poignant portrayal of the true story of Oscar Grant,” said PGA Awards Co-Chairs Lori McCreary.
The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. For a complete list of nominations, head here.
