"We set out to build something that accurately reflects our community of artists, their diverse talents, and the creative process they employ to bring disparate ideas together into a single vision,"
indicated Christina Kounelias, Chief Marketing Officer of The Academy.
With its new logo, it was noted that it does
reflect their community of artists, their diverse talents, and the creative process. All of this was brought together to form that single vision for the community of artists. Not to mention, the inclusion of Academy Museum, set to open in 2017, shows the focus on the future.
According to AMPAS, the
museum will contain over 290,000 square feet of state-of-the-art galleries, exhibition spaces, movie theaters, educational areas, and special event spaces.
It was also announced by AMPAS that 298 films are eligible for the 2013 Academy Awards®. They will be awarded in March 2014.
The rule states that feature films must open in a commercial
motion picture theater in Los Angeles County by midnight, Dec. 31, and begin a minimum run of seven consecutive days. Meanwhile, a feature-length motion picture must have a running time of more than 40 minutes.
Films also must have been exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film, or in a qualifying digital format. The Academy noted that, "feature films that receive their first public exhibition or distribution in any manner other than as a theatrical motion picture release are not eligible for Academy Awards in any category."
One last Oscar item.
Songs play a big part of movies and this year, that is no exception. Moving on in that category for 2013 are 75 songs.
The songs must be written for the film, not a hit song already out and then used in a movie. For a complete list, head
