Vardaan Arora discusses new single ‘Poison,’ Alessia Cara and Sia (Includes interview)

Regarding his single “Poison,” he said, “The idea for ‘Poison’ came about when I began wondering why we keep going back to something, or someone, knowing fully well that it’s unhealthy and toxic for us. It’s a relatable concept, and I wanted to express the meaning behind it masking it with an infectious beat that makes you want to get up and dance.”

His proudest moments in music include when he found out that his first single “Feel Good Song” made the Top 20 on Spotify’s Global Viral charts. “It was insane,” he admitted.

Arora is a huge fan of pop music, and his own taste is highly eclectic. “I could go from Amy Winehouse to Nancy Sinatra to Big Sean within the span of a day and it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary. I think newer pop acts like Troye Sivan and Dua Lipa are changing the game, and I’m really digging them right now,” he said.

He hopes to release an EP in the future. “I’m still in the middle of writing, and I’m not rushing that. I just want to keep making more music. As long as that happens, I’m happy,” he said.

For aspiring singers, he encouraged them to “keep working.” “It’s hard to get recognized, it’s hard to put yourself out there but the only thing that’s in your control is the ability to create art. Don’t stop doing that, even when it seems impossible,” he said.

Each day, he is motivated by his support here, in New York and back in India. “Without the love and support of my friends and family, I don’t think I’d be anywhere close to where I am today. I credit them with everything, and that’s what keeps me going,” he said.

Arora listed Alessia Cara and Sia as his dream female duet choices in music. “That girl has such a good range, and she’s also a great writer. I’d love to be in the studio with her. Also Sia, although I’d probably just be in awe of her the entire time,” he said.

For his fans, he said, “I just want people to be apply the lyrics from the song to something in their own life. I want them to connect to it. Other than that, I would love for everyone to just put it on their pregame playlists.”
