article imageTroyBoi discusses Electric Zoo, plans for the future and Beyonce Special

By Markos Papadatos     Sep 2, 2018 in Music
New York - On September 1, British electronic producer TroyBoi sat down and chatted with Digital Journal at "Electric Zoo: The Big 10." He played at the Hilltop Arena.
"It feels amazing to be here. Having the people of New York come out and hear my music is always a pleasure and an honor," TroyBoi said.
On his songwriting inspirations, he said, "Life and my heritage play a huge part of it. I come from a mixed background, so my instruments come from my cultures such as India, China, Portugal, and Nigeria. I am inspired by hip-hop and electronic music and whatever works for me, I just do it."
TroyBoi's plans for the future are to release more music, have his own record label and to have his own festival. "Thank you so much to the fans for all the support they have given me. I have so much more music coming. My new EP is coming out in September," he said.
He defined success as being able to make a positive impact on people's lives through his music. "I want to make people smile. That is success for me. To be happy," he said.
Digital transformation of the music business
On the impact of technology on the music business, TroyBoi said, "Technology has made it a lot easier for people to make music. That's for sure. It's a little bit harder for people to find good quality because a lot of music is pre-done. There is less room for the real creators to do what they are doing, but technology is still good, especially for people that really want to learn the art quickly, technology is perfect for them."
Regarding his use of technology in his daily routine as a musician, TroyBoi said, "I use a lot of mini controllers, I play all of my music myself and I use external instruments, and I experiment with anything I like. A lot of my vocals are recorded on my iPhone."
TroyBoi listed Queen Bey (Beyonce) as his dream female collaboration choice in music. "Working with Beyonce would be great," he said. "For a very quirky person, I also like Enya. I have sampled her work before. She is an incredible singer, and she is about the voice, and not anything else."
