article imageTrent Tomlinson discusses new 'That's What's Working Right Now' Special

By Markos Papadatos     May 21, 2017 in Music
Country singer Trent Tomlinson chatted with Digital Journal about his new "That's What's Working Right Now" single and album.
On the song selection process for his new CD, Tomlinson said, "The whole album itself is basically the last seven years of my life. It deals with things I went through, and it's the 12 best songs I've written in the past seven years. It's probably the best record I ever made. We are really excited about it."
The lyric video for his single "That's What's Working Right Now" was released today, on May 21. "It is pretty interesting and we are also going to be filming an acoustic video for the single," he said.
As a songwriter, Tomlinson has penned such distinguished country tunes as William Michael Morgan's "Lonesomeville," Parmalee's "Close Your Eyes," Love & Theft's "Whiskey On My Breath" and Brett Young's "In Case You Didn't Know," the latter of which is on its way of becoming a chart-topping country single. "What a blessing that is," he said. "My father passed away from a heart attack out of the blue, and ever since my mom would always say 'Trent, in case you didn't know, I love you.' It was one of those things that was frequent after that happened, and then I had the opportunity to write with Brett Young, and we wrote that song based on that idea. It took us 20 to 30 minutes to write that song. It's amazing to see what it has done from a little condo in Mexico to being the No. 1 song in the country It's pretty cool," he added, referring to the success of "In Case You Didn't Know."
His most successful single to date is his poignant "One Wing in the Fire," which reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot Country charts. "That was written about my daddy," he recalled. "When we released that song before he passed away, he used to call the radio stations requesting that song as 'One Wing in the Fire.' I think he got my record played more than anybody else. It was pretty cool."
Regarding his plans for the future, he said, "We're on a radio tour supporting the new single and the album. We are visiting three or four stations a day. It's a grueling process, but it needed to be done. It felt important to reintroduce myself to radio again. It has been a great process so far."
Tomlinson's new album That's What's Working Right Now is available on iTunes.
