Tom Bertram talks ‘World at My Feet,’ Taylor Swift and Katy Perry (Includes interview)

On his new single, “World At My Feet,” he said, “The single came about by getting some success in the industry and seeing that when you start to succeed people close to you can fear that you will not pay attention to them as much. But this song is my vow that no matter what happens, I will always come back home to those I love and that this is for them.”

Bertram’s inspiring song has been well-received. “It feels outstanding! When you are a child with a dream and you stand in the mirror singing, playing the air guitar and imagining being at number one, it is a fantasy. But to see it come true is something I have to pinch myself for everyday. I can’t thank the fans enough for the support and for getting it to number one. Also the message in this is that dreams do come true, just believe in yourself and keep going,” he said.

His future is quite busy with new music and a tour. “At the moment, we are looking at September onwards for all the new stuff to happen so get ready! And my mission is to spread love, joy, passion and positivity through music to the world,” he said.

When asked what inspired his music, he said, “The start of my writing came from me suffering a heart attack at 17 years old, and because of this my heart went into complete heart block and I had a pacemaker inserted. After years of suffering from anxiety, panic attacks and depression, I finally beat it and I became the man I am today. I truly believe that happened to me so I can serve the world and help people who suffer or even prevent people from suffering in the first place. Spreading love one person at a time, that is what inspires me with my music.”

He noted that global music stars Taylor Swift and Katy Perry are his dream female duet choices. “I’d love to duet with Taylor Swift. I think she is a fantastic writer and extremely talented musician. Her songs inspire people across the world and as you know now that is my mission too. Secondly, I would duet with Katy Perry, for similar reasons. The message is so important to me in songs, and a song like ‘Firework’ shows a strong message Katy has for the world. She also is a phenomenal vocalist. I am sure both would be a beautiful experience to work with.”

Bertram’s advice for aspiring musicians is as follows: “Keep working on your craft and listen to criticism, or as I prefer to call it ‘advise’. For the first few years on my journey I thought I was ready to be signed and be a star. People in the industry gave me constructive criticism which I paid attention to but still was resentful to, to a degree. Now I look back and they were totally right. Work on your craft, improve your vocals, your pitch, your timing, your song structure, your lyrics and get better and better and better. Also don’t give up! You only truly fail when you give up. So don’t give up, keep going and know that there is a reason why you are pulled to do music. Also enjoy the journey and be patient! These are probably the two things I wish for you to take in the most.”

For his fans, he concluded, “Firstly, thank you ever so much for giving it the success it has. It means the world to me to read your messages, hear your stories and see you singing along at shows. I appreciate you dearly. For those that haven’t heard it yet, go have a listen and I’d be interested to know who you are thinking of when you listen to it? Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I am truly grateful and can’t wait to give you more music!”
