Two singles ago, his song “Die a Happy Man,” was stellar from start to finish, and it spent five weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot Country charts. The same could not be said for “Vacation,” which is also featured on the same album Tangled Up.
This song is boring, his vocal performance on it is lackluster, and its party lyrics are reminiscent of something that a teenager would write. Most puzzling is the fact that over 10 songwriters had to come together to write this unimpressive tune.
The Verdict
Thomas Rhett’s “Vacation” is one of those songs that makes one want to take a “vacation” from listening to the country radio airwaves. It does not even sound country to begin with. There were far better songs on his Tangled Up album that would have made much better choices for radio singles. Rhett should stick to writing love ballads. This one simply does not cut it. “Vacation” earns a D- rating.
