“I am enjoying New York City,” he said. “We took a big walk today and we saw some sights. It was really cool.”
He is drawn to electronic music due to its energy. “It can take you on a journey. It is so diverse and there are so many ways that you can express yourself with this type of music. It is super versatile and it’s very flexible to produce,” he said.
Gold shared his love for his record label, Armada Music. “Armada is great. I joined them two years and two months ago. I am really happy to be with that team. It’s a great company. I am really happy to be with them,” he said.
Each day, Gold is motivated by the opportunity to make a living with music and being creative. “I can create things and travel the world with my music. It’s very motivating,” he said. “I hope I can do this for as long as possible.”
Gold’s proudest moments include playing at EDC main stage in Las Vegas, as well as playing Ultra Miami and the Tomorrowland main stage.
He listed “Sing 2 Me” as one of his personal favorite songs, which is very meaningful to him. “It is simple and it means something to me,” he said.
Gold complimented songstress Jillian Edwards for working with him on the song “Magic.” “‘Magic’ is another favorite song. It is more on the commercial dance side,” he said. “We were both super excited about that collaboration. Jillian is such a nice person!”
When about about his pre-shot rituals, he revealed, “I have a double vodka shot.”
On the key to longevity in electronic dance music (EDM), he said, “Constant evolution of sounds. You have to at least be original, but adapt yourself. The music has been changing, and the sounds have been changing, and I’m sure in the next three years, there is another big wave of changes coming. You need to be open to change, and you need to be flexible.”
Gold’s advice for aspiring musicians is as follows: “Find your own signature sound. Take your time and be patient. Work hard for what you are aiming for.”
Digital transformation of music industry
On the impact of technology in the electronic dance music (EDM) industry, Gold said, “Most of the change was predictable. Software is so fast now and you can produce everything in real time now. I produce everything on my computer, everything is digital, and even in my studio, I use my laptop. I connect it to the rest of my gear in the studio, and when I go on the road, I have my laptop with me, and I have my whole studio with me. Basically, the production process and the creative process are happening on laptop, and I can take it with me everywhere. This makes it easier to travel. Even if I have an idea, I can transfer it. It is really cool.”
Gold admitted that he has seen a resurgence of vinyl. Ironically enough, Gold just visited The Thing/ Vinyl Sales in Brooklyn, New York. “I was at The Thing, and they have 10,000 records, literally,” he said. “I still have my vinyl collection at home. I have around 4,000 of them. Vinyl has a warmth to the sound. A lot of new tracks that are coming out these days are inspired by vinyl records.”
For his hardcore fans, he concluded, “Thank you for all the support over the years. Thank you for always being kind and nice, and for coming to my shows.”
Gold defined the word success as “Living your dream, as well as making a living out of what I’m creating in the studio.” “That’s my personal success and I’m very thankful for that,” he said, prior to sharing that his new track “Don’t Stop (Creepin’)” came out last week.
