Teen queen will ‘Own The Night’ at Radio Disney Music Awards (Includes interview)

The 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards will take place this Saturday, June 23, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. This awards show is billed as music’s biggest event for families, and rightfully so. The ceremony will consist of live performances from Radio Disney’s biggest stars such as Charlie Puth, Meghan Trainor and Kelly Clarkson.

Joining them to promote her new song, “Own The Night,” will be Radio Disney teen sensation Samantha LaPorta. At 16 years old, she is a rising star among the tween set. Her song is in the Top 10 on the Radio Disney playlist this week, and it has been the most requested song for four weeks in a row.

Digital Journal chatted with spoke with LaPorta, as she was preparing for her big night out.

How did you become a Radio Disney teen sensation?

Samantha LaPorta: “My manager submitted my music and made the introduction to Radio Disney.”

Was it really that easy?

Samantha LaPorta: “I wish. I logged in countless hours with vocals coaches and in the recording studio before I was ready to meet with them.”

What’s your advice to other talented teens who hope to be Radio Disney’s next teen sensation?

Samantha LaPorta: “My advice is to work hard and embrace the journey. It takes a lot of sacrifice and dedication to be able to shine in this business. Never ever give up your dreams.”

“Own The Night” is in the top 10 on the Radio Disney playlist and has been the top requested song of the week, four weeks in a row.

Samantha LaPorta: “Having the support of Radio Disney is amazing. I remember the day I was welcomed into the Disney family. It was a dream come true and continues to be.”

Would you agree that the support from Radio Disney has contributed significantly to the song reaching over 150,000 Spotify streams?

Samantha LaPorta: “Absolutely. After the Radio Disney Insider Interview aired “Own The Night,” the song was added to the Radio Disney Stuck in our Head Spotify Playlist and has been growing weekly. I can’t say enough about the Radio Disney fans. I hear from them everyday, and because of them, I was featured on The Radio Disney MLB (Major League Baseball) Mash-up.”

Are you excited for this Saturday’s Radio Disney’s Music Awards?

Samantha LaPorta: “Yes. It’s my favorite event of the year. The red carpet is a blast. I love the interviews, playing the interactive games and hanging out with fans. I also love being a fan and seeing all of my favorite artists from radio and TV.”

What artists are you rooting for this year?

Samantha LaPorta: “I am thrilled that Janet Jackson is receiving the Impact Award. Love her. Also, I can’t wait to see Kelly Clarkson and Charlie Puth perform. I have a been a fan of theirs since I can remember.”

Who will be accompanying you to the awards?

Samantha LaPorta: “My manager, Lucas Prata, will be with me on the red carpet and at the VIP after party. My parents will be in the audience.”

Do you know what you’ll be wearing?

Samantha LaPorta: “I am super into jumpsuits. I fell in love with the Bebe jumpsuit so I’ll likely be wearing it to the Radio Disney Music Awards.”
