Sheryl Crow talks about Outlaw Music Festival, staying healthy (Includes interview)

Crow will be a part of The Outlaw Music Festival on September 9 at the Jones Beach Theater in New York, where she will be playing with Willie Nelson, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real and The Avett Brothers, among others. “I will be there with my good, sweet friend Willie Nelson, and The Avett Brothers. It’s going to be a great summer for me,” she said.

For Crow, a difference exists when she sings in the studio vs. performing live. “When you are performing live, you are making connections with people you’ve never seen before, and people you will never see again, and it feels meaningful,” she said. “In the studio, you are trying to capture something, and you are not exactly sure what it is yet. I enjoy both of them.”

Her advice for aspiring singer-songwriters is as follows: “Work at it. Process. Listen to other people. Learn. Stay awake, aware and be honest.”

When asked how she stays in such top-notch physical shape, she said, “I think I’m genetically blessed. All the people in my family are pretty small. I do try to eat as well as I can. I’m also really active. I do have two little boys and they keep me very
active. I’m not really a big workout person, but I play sports. I like to meditate, be outside and run around, and just be active.”

Over the last 25 years, she admitted that looking back, she sees “a lot of living, a lot of learning and a lot of adventure.”

Her proudest professional moments include collaborating with such musical greats as Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, and The Rolling Stones. “I have really been so lucky to get to sing and play and work with people that I love, that have been big inspirations to me,” she said.

She concluded by sharing her definition of the word success. “Being happy and feeling satisfied in my life,” she said.
