Scotty McCreery opens up about new single ‘Five More Minutes’ (Includes interview)

On his new single “Five More Minutes,” he said, “We are excited about this one. My grand-daddy, Bill, passed away two weeks before I wrote this song, and it’s about remembering the good moments you had, and a lot of folks can relate to that. It was not a fun song to write, but it was a good one.”

The song struck a chord with his listeners when he performed it live at the hallowed Grand Ole Opry stage last June. “We weren’t expecting that. From the standing ovation to the reaction when the fans watched it on YouTube. That was unexpected but quite the thrill,” he said, graciously.

Most impressive about McCreery is that all three of his studio albums went No. 1 on a Billboard chart. “That was unexpected. It’s all thanks to the fans. I wouldn’t be here without them, and they have stuck by my side since day one. I appreciate them more than they will ever know,” he said.

Regarding his book tour last year, he said, “It was awesome, and a lot different than putting out music. In a book, you can write about as much as you want. I think I had about 300 pages, so it was great fun.”

McCreery’s plans for the future are to continue promoting his new single “Five More Minutes.” “I haven’t been this excited for a long time,” he said. “We are on the road all year long, and we hope they keep coming to the shows, since it has been an awesome start of the year so far.”

The North Carolina native had nothing but the greatest remarks towards his new manager. “He’s my biggest champion the last few years. He’s a hard worker and he gets things done.”

When asked to reflect upon the last five years, he said, “I see a lot of good memories. I’ve been through a lot. It’s been incredible and I’ve learned a lot and I hope to continue to grow. I look forward to many more.”

McCreery listed Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Cam and Carrie Underwood as his dream collaboration choices in country music. “There are a lot of good voices out there that I would love to team up with,” he said.

For his fans, he concluded, “I hope they enjoy ‘Five More Minutes’ and that it takes them back to all the good memories in their life. I know it can be sad, but for me, when I’m singing the song, I’m thinking about the good memories. Even when I’m singing about my grand-daddy in the last verse, sometimes I’ll break down, but sometimes I’ll be smiling since I’ll be thinking about the good times. I hope it touches them likes it has touched me. It feels like my grand-daddy is watching down on me. It is a cool feeling for sure.”

His “Five More Minutes” single garnered a rave review from Digital Journal, and rightfully so. It is available for purchase on iTunes.
