Savannah Conley opens up about new EP, future plans, Neil Young (Includes interview)

On her Twenty-Twenty EP, she said, “Those three songs ended up being a beginning, a middle and an end of an experience as a whole. It didn’t mean to be like that. They ended up being the story of a break-up that I had. They were songs written in the middle of one experience.”

Conley continued, “I hope that the EP speaks to the fans in some way. My hope for any kind of writing is that it speaks to people, and hopefully to help them through something that they are going through. I hope they enjoy it as well.”

This fall, Conley is touring with singer-songwriter Anderson East as his special musical guest. She shared that her music is inspired by “everything.” “It can be something I have experienced or something that somebody around me has experienced, or books and movies,” she said. “It can really be anything, but it is mainly things that happened to me, in my own experiences,” she admitted.

Regarding her future plans, Conley said, “We are recording the album right now, that we will put out next year at some point. We are cutting a lot of songs and we will pair them down. We are close to being done. That’s the main goal for next year: to release the full LP. Also, we hope to tour for the majority of next year.”

She listed Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Neil Young as her dream collaboration choice in music. “A Neil Young collaboration would be the absolute dream,” she said, with a sweet laugh. “That’s a big one for me.”

Digital transformation of the music business

On the impact of technology on the music business, Conley said, “Obviously, I would love for the pay rates on the streaming services to be a little higher. I understand the beef with streaming, but I also love that it makes everything so accessible and easy to discover new artists. Honestly, I am a fan of streaming and it makes my listening easier, and it makes getting your name out easier. It does make things competitive but that means that you just need to be that much better. I think the pros outweigh the cons for sure.”

Her Twenty-Twenty EP is available on iTunes.
