Jarosz took home the Grammy awards for “Best American Roots Performance” for “House of Mercy,” and for “Best Folk Album” for Undercurrent. “I was so stoked,” she said. “It felt amazing and honestly, pretty surreal. I was so happy to have been there with Gary Paczosa, who I made all four of my albums with. This time, it was awesome to celebrate that with him. That was really special, and so much fun.”
Each day, Jarosz is motivated by a plethora of things. “I am listening to music and checking out new things all the time. I’m really digging in deep to what my long-time musical heroes are doing,” she said. “I’m motivated by finding musical situations that will keep me on my toes, and learning and growing.”
On March 17, Jarosz will be performing at the Landmark on Main Street in Port Washington on Long Island. “I am really excited,” she said. “That is my first time to that venue, so I’m really looking forward to that. I can’t wait.”
Her plans for the future are to continue touring, doing her own shows, and festivals in the summer. The Texas native listed Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell as her dream duet choices. “Paul is in my Top 5 heroes of all time, along with Joni Mitchell,” she said. “I have been fortunate to sing with so many of my musical heroes.”
For aspiring singer-songwriters, she said. “Try to listen to as much music as possible. A writer needs to read, and a songwriter needs to listen to other good songwriters and study the craft. Try to constantly be collecting ideas and writing down lyrics, even if it is just a line here and there. Keep your ears open and be aware of ideas.”
Jarosz defined success as “Constantly being inspired, and having the ability and the raw excitement about any given project.”
