Yanni was able to take his fans and listeners on a trip down memory lane to 1993, when he initially recorded his Live at the Acropolis album. This year, the collection celebrates its 25-year anniversary, and the songs and melodies are as important as ever.
“Santorini” was a true instrumental masterpiece, that instantly lured the audience into his set. Equally stunning were “Keys to Imagination” and “Until the Last Moment.”
Other standout compositions were “Acroyali” and his popular, powerhouse tune “Within Attraction.” Most impressive about Yanni is that he allowed the music to speak for itself. “Nostalgia” was indeed nostalgic, and “Reflections of Passion” was a compelling musical experience, thanks to its marvelous string arrangements from the orchestra.
Another highlight moment was when soprano Lauren Jelencovich lent her mellifluous vocals on “Nightingale,” which was sheer perfection (especially the operatic belt towards the end), thus proving that her voice is too good to be mortal. Yanni himself rewarded her with a standing ovation.
Yanni was truly able to transport his Radio City audience to different realms with all of these exquisite musical compositions.
Most recently, Yanni was brought back in the limelight thanks to the “Yanny vs. Laurel” debate, where he even took the time to respond himself.
The Verdict
Overall, Yanni was able to give his fans and listeners a remarkable night of contemporary inspirational music, as he commemorated the songs from his Live at the Acropolis CD. He truly captured the rawness, essence and beauty of the music. His orchestra was comprised of equally gifted musicians, all of which helped bring the songs to life. His live concert at Radio City garnered an A rating.
