article imageReview: Ultra Music releases sultry I DO track 'Woke Up in Kingston' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jul 13, 2018 in Music
On Friday, July 13, 2018, I DO released their brand new single "Woke Up In Kingston" via their record label, Ultra Music.
I DO is comprised of independent songwriter and rhythmic-reggae artist J. Lauryn, and international producer Trackdilla.
The melodies on "Woke Up In Kingston" are truly hypnotic, and J. Lauryn's crisp, crystalline voice helps elevate the song to a higher level. This collaboration is a match made in electronic music heaven. The song itself is one dark love story about the internal struggle, and the songstress does a solid job conveying that story though its raw lyrics.
J. Lauryn shared that the song is a love story about somebody that is not living their truth, and not being their real self in a situation. Then, that person comes to find out that self-awareness.
Most impressive is the fact that the tune blends several eclectic genres and cultural elements in one track. "Woke Up in Kingston" fuses Afro-pop, reggae, indie, hip-hop, R&B, pop and even electronic dance music. It is mellow and nonchalant with island vibes and seductive reggae beats.
Throughout his career in the music business, producer Trackdilla has worked with such diverse artists as Blackstreet's Chauncey Black, Sean Paul, 2 Chainz, Maitre Gims, Rick Ross, and Natalie La Rose, among countless others.
"Woke Up in Kingston" is available on Beatport.
The Verdict
Overall, I DO delivers on their new collaboration "Woke Up in Kingston." It is worth more than just a passing glance. It garners four out of five stars. Hopefully, there will be more fine tracks from I DO in the future.
