Review: Tony winner Betty Buckley shines on ‘Ghostlight’ album (Includes first-hand account)

Her album opens with “Come to Me Bend to Me,” where she showcases her crystalline and timeless voice. It is followed by the haunting acoustic ballad “If You Go Away,” and “Blue Skies,” which has a neat arrangement to it.

“Throw It Away” has some melancholy to it, while “Lazy Afternoon” is another keeper. Equally haunting is the piano-driven ballad “Bewitched.” Buckley shows her strong storytelling ability on “This Nearly Was Mine.”

The CD closes with “Take It with Me When I Go” and the soothing “Where Time Stands Still.”

Ghostlight is available on Amazon.

The Verdict

Overall, Betty Buckley delivers on her Ghostlight album, which is a warm and eloquent collection of tunes. All of the songs are carefully selected and well polished. T Bone Burnett has done a solid job with its production. This studio offering deserves more than just a passing glance. It garners an A rating.
