The CD opens with the laid-back “Love > Building on Fire, and it is followed by the sassy “Slippery People (featuring Tarrus Riley),” and the nonchalant “Burning Down the House.”
After “Houses in Motion,” it immediately breaks into “This Must Be the Place (Naïve Melody),” which is pure ear candy. Mystic Bowie displays his storytelling ability on “Once in a Lifetime,” and equally fun and upbeat is “Pulled Up.”
Freddie McGregor is featured on “Life During Wartime,” and “Crosseyed and Painless” has a mellow vibe to it. Mystic Bowie concludes his 13-track collection with his distinct version of the Janis Joplin classic, “Piece of My Heart,” which works really well, as well as “Heaven,” where he is joined with Cindy Wilson of The B-52s.
Mystic Bowie’s Talking Dreads is available on iTunes.
