The Grascals’ new album opens with the mid-tempo and infectious “Sleepin’ With the Reaper,” thus kicking the pace in high gear. It is followed by the fiddle driven “Demons,” and “Delia” has a retro vibe to it, that will make the listener stomp their feet and clap around.
“I’ve Been Redeemed” is more Christian sounding and inspirational, and they slow down the pace on the stunning acoustic ballad “Lonesome,” featuring their velvet harmonies.
They show their witty side on the hilarious “Beer Tree.” Equally beautiful is the melancholic “Pathway Of Teardrops” and “Lynchburg Chicken Run” is an instrumental masterpiece.
“He Took Your Place” is a great ode to redemption, while “Lost And Lonesome” is an upbeat gem. After the moving ballad, “There Is You,” the album closes with “Clear Corn Liquor,” which is an uplifting song that will put a smile on the listener’s face.
The Verdict
Overall, The Grascals are superb on their brand new album Before Breakfast. It is recommended for listeners of traditional country and bluegrass music. Two of the highlight tracks include “Lonesome” and the instrumental “Lynchburg Chicken Run.” Their musicianship as a band and the album’s production are both top-notch. It deserves a Grammy nomination for “Best Bluegrass Album” at a future Grammy awards ceremony. Before Breakfast garners an A rating.
Before Breakfast is available on iTunes on September 1.
