article imageReview: Taylor Swift horrid on new 'Look What You Made Me Do' single Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 25, 2017 in Music
Global music star Taylor Swift has released her new single, the cynical "Look What You Made Me Do," and it is quite awful.
"Look What You Made Me Do" is the lead single from Swift's upcoming studio album, Reputation, which will be released on November 10 on Big Machine Records. The lyrics are flat out childish, cheesy and unimpressive. In fact, midway through the song, she sings that the "old Taylor" is unable to get to the phone right now, "cause she's dead."
She unleashes her anger towards rap superstar Kanye West in the line: "I don't like your little games, don't like your tilted stage," which was evident for anybody that saw West on his tour last year. Her feud with Katy Perry appears to be referenced in the following lyrics: "I don't like your perfect crime, how you laugh when you lie," where Swift blatantly states that she does no like that person.
The song may be more edgier than her previous musical work, but it is very confusing and bizarre at the same time. The listener might slightly recall Lorde's "Green Light," but Lorde does a phenomenal job on that tune. Many fans and listeners will be baffled with what they just listened to, since her music has taken a different direction, for the worse. It appears that she is trying to be somebody that she isn't.
The Verdict
Overall, the new Taylor Swift single "Look What You Made Me Do," garners 1 out of 5 stars. Let's hope the rest of her new album is better, since this lead single is completely lackluster. It is one of those songs that one instantly wants to change the radio station once it is being played. Her songwriting has been downgraded to kindergarten.
