Review: Sting delights on ‘Live At The Olympia, Paris’ DVD and Blu-ray (Includes first-hand account)

This DVD and Blu-ray features his classic hits (from his solo career and with The Police), as well as songs from his latest studio album 57th & 9th, which was released in November of 2016 via A&M/Interscope Records.

It opens with “Synchronicity II” and it is followed by “Spirits in the Material World” and the fan-favorite “Englishman in New York,” where Sting is able to instantly lure his audience into this superb collection. He gives his fans a front-row seat to his show at the iconic venue Olympia in Paris, France. It is great to hear his lead single, the addicting ” I Can’t Stop Thinking About You” from his latest album, which he nails. Equally gorgeous is his rendition of the delicate “Fields of Gold.” “Desert Rose” has always been this journalist’s favorite Sting song, and he does it justice in this DVD. It closes with the perennial classic “Every Breath You Take” and on a subtle note with “Fragile,” where his voice is smooth as silk.

A multi-Grammy winner, Sting was joined by his talented four-piece band, which included Dominic Miller on guitar, Josh Freese on drums, Percy Cardona on accordion, as well as Rufus Miller on guitar.

In addition, this DVD and Blu-ray consists of such bonus features as nine additional songs, which includes the tune “Heading South On The Great North Road,” from his latest studio offering.

The Verdict

This collection is a must for all fans of Sting and pop, rock music. The iconic singer-songwriter proves to still be at the top of his game musically, and his voice is still rich and powerful. He can belt out the high notes effortlessly (especially in “Message in a Bottle”), and he is in great physical shape. Live At the Olympia, Paris earns an A rating.

Live At the Olympia, Paris is available on iTunes and on Amazon.
