Review: Runaway June release playful new country single ‘Lipstick’ (Includes first-hand account)

Runaway June is made up of the organic, three part harmonies of Naomi Cooke on lead vocals and guitar, Hannah Mulholland on vocals and mandolin and Jennifer Wayne on vocals and guitar. They are signed to Wheelhouse Records.

The lyrics of their breakthrough single “Lipstick” are fun and sassy. The song impacted country radio as one of its most-added songs. Their honey-rich vocals and soaring harmonies are reminiscent of Pistol Annies meets the Dixie Chicks. The single serves as a modern twist on a break-up anthem, especially since it is both optimistic and upbeat. It has fared well on the country radio airwaves in New York, where it has been played by the hit radio station NASH FM 94.7.

Runaway June recently shared the stage with country mega-star Tim McGraw, where they performed for a crowd of 22,000 people at the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s “Concert for Legends” on August 5.

“Lipstick” is available on iTunes.

The Verdict

Overall, Runaway June deserves to make it big in the country music scene. “Lipstick” is a keeper, and it earns four out of five stars.
