article imageReview: Rick Springfield rocks the Coney Island Amphitheater in Brooklyn Special

By Markos Papadatos     Aug 22, 2016 in Music
Brooklyn - Grammy winner Rick Springfield headlined the Coney Island Amphitheater in Brooklyn on August 18, and he delivered a rocking performance.
An acclaimed rock singer-songwriter, Springfield opened his set with "Light This Party Up," and it was met with a raucous response from his Coney Island fans. It was followed by "I've Done Everything for You" and his Grammy-nominated "I Get Excited," where everybody was singing along with him.
The infectious "Don't Talk to Strangers" was yet another highlight performance by Springfield, and the same was true for "Affair of the Heart." It is no wonder that both songs garnered him nods for "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance" and "Best Male Rock Vocal Performance" respectively. "Miss Mayhem" was more laid-back and groovy.
The fan-favorite moment was when he took off his shirt and went into the crowd for "Human Touch," especially his female audience. He closed with "Love Somebody," prior to returning for an encore, which included the song that everybody wanted to hear, his 80's rock anthem "Jessie's Girl."
"Would you believe it was 35 years when that song came out? Freakin' unbelievable," he said, and immediately broke into "Jessie's Girl," with its killer guitar riffs, as an animated background displayed on the televised screen. This marvelous rendition earned him a lengthy standing ovation.
The Verdict
Overall, Rick Springfield soared at his show at the Coney Island Amphitheater in Brooklyn. He looked top-notch physically, and he nailed the rock vocals and electric guitar. His band members were equally impressive and talented, and they were all able to introduce Springfield's classic hits to a new generation of fans. They are worth seeing in concert when they are in the area. His live set garnered 4.5 out of 5 stars.
