Wantagh - On Aug. 20, pop star Rachel Platten performed at the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, as part of the Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival.
She shared the stage with hip-hop artist Fetty Wap with special guest Monty, electronic music star Martin Garrix and headliner Ariana Grande.
Platten's set included such well-received songs as "Congratulations," as well as her latest radio single "Better Place," which was full of positivity. Her cover of Swedish House Mafia's "Don't You Worry Child" was delicate and soothing. Throughout her set, the artwork of the cover of her new album, Wildfire, displayed on the televised screen in the background.
"Thank you so much for being so cool," Platten told her fans. "Thank you for standing in this heat and being uncomfortable. Have a killer night tonight," she added, and went on to tell them the story behind her signature song "Fight Song." She shared that the song is about not listening to what the naysayers are saying, and standing by your beliefs. She began the song on piano and it broke into a true power-ballad, where all the fans had their fists up in the air. Towards the end, she made them sing an additional verse of the chorus, which resonated well with the audience, due to its empowering nature.
The Verdict
Overall, Rachel Platten showcased her bubbly personality during the Billboard Hot 100 Music festival. Her music struck a chord with her Long Island audience, and it was quite inspiring. Her live set garnered four out of five stars.
