This was his second consecutive show (over the span of two days) at Nassau Coliseum, as part of his “One on One” tour. As McCartney took the stage, he was greeted with a lengthy standing ovation from the crowd. The veteran British rocker kicked off his set with “A Hard Day’s Night,” where he rocked the electric guitar, and he immediately broke into such tunes as “Save Us” and “Can’t Buy Me Love.”
One of the highlights from the first half of his show was his powerhouse rendition of “Maybe I’m Amazed.” He continued by belting out hit after hit for the entire night. “Eleanor Rigby” was very powerful, and a true masterpiece, where he played acoustic guitar.
McCartney showed his Long Island fans how to have a fun time on the upbeat “Back in the U.S.S.R.” and his piano-driven version of “Let It Be” was dynamic and soulful. The Nassau Coliseum audience lit up the venue with their cell phones during “Let It Be,” which was a marvelous spectacle.
He closed with “Live and Let Die,” which was a true spectacle with pyrotechnics, and “Hey Jude,” where he accompanied himself on piano, as the entire venue served as his background vocalists, in yet another special moment of the night.
McCartney returned for an encore that featured such iconic Beatles classics as “Yesterday” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” prior to concluding with “Carry That Weight” and on a fitting note with “The End.”
The Verdict
Overall, Paul McCartney proved that he is one timeless artist, and the New York audience was well aware that they were in the present of a living musical legend. The 75-year-old crooner was able to take his fans on a musical journey over the past six decades of his illustrious career, as he performed for almost three hours. He deserves to be commended for his tremendous energy level and stage presence. His live show at Nassau Coliseum garnered an A rating.
