What a way to butcher a Christmas classic! Lane’s version of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” is poor karaoke, and it lacks the passion, charisma and conviction that Lee invested in it, hence Lee’s original has stood the test of time for well over five decades, and it is still ranked in the Top 3 Christmas songs of all time). Lane would have been better off instead releasing an original holiday tune. Lane does not do this perennial classic justice in any shape or form.
The Verdict
Overall, Olivia Lane disappoints on her cover of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” Judging from her eponymous EP, Lane could have done so much better. She needs to be more careful in her song selection in the future, especially when it comes to cover songs. Lane’s version of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” garners one out of five stars. Country fans and listeners are far better off listening to the original recording.
