On August 17, 2018, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Neil Diamond released the 40th anniversary collection of his "Hot August Night" album with a concert DVD, Blu-Ray and multi-disc set via Capitol/UMe.
It includes 31 of his greatest recordings, which he performed at the iconic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in 2012. The multi-disc set has over two hours and 20 minutes of music and behind the scenes footage of Diamond with his band and crew.
From the first half of the disc, it includes "Beautiful Noise," as well as the nonchalant "Forever in Blue Jeans" and the mellow "Red Red Wine."
The second half features such classics including a soothing rendition of "I'm a Believer," as well as the fan favorite "Sweet Caroline" and "I Am... I Said," where he displayed his rich, harking vocals. This journalist's personal favorite Neil Diamond tune was his stellar rendition of "America," as well as the story behind the song, which he dedicated to his grandma.
Hot August Night III is available on iTunes.
The Verdict
Overall, Neil Diamond is back with another timeless collection, Hot August Night III. The Greek Theatre audience's excitement was palpable in this multi-disc set, as they were in the presence of a living rock and roll legend. His storytelling ability is quite extraordinary. It is evident that his songs will never go out of style, as they have become a part of the great American Songbook. This new collection is a must for any fans of Neil Diamond. He truly shines brightly as a "diamond," and it garners an A rating.
