New York - On August 23, 2018, rising country artist Mitchell Tenpenny played an intimate set for "Up Close and Country" at the Hackensack Meridian Health Stage 17, as part of NASH FM 94.7.
This acoustic event was hosted by NASH FM radio personality Katie Neal, who introduced him as having one of the "hottest" songs of the summer, "Drunk Me." "Please give a NASH Nation welcome to Mitchell Tenpenny," she said.
"How y'all doing?" Tenpenny asked, as he took Stage 17. "My name is Mitchell Tenpenny from Nashville, Tennesse, and this city is really big. It scares us," he said.
Tenpenny opened with "Truck I Drove in High School," which is a song that he co-wrote with Devin Dawson, before either of them scored major record deals. His rich, baritone vocals were reminiscent of John Mayer.
He shared that he co-wrote the next song "Mixed Drinks" with Jordan Walker of the country duo Walker McGuire, at a bar in Nashville called Losers. He showed his soft side on the soothing "Telling All My Secrets," which he co-penned with Dallas Wilson.
Tenpenny changed the pace of his set with the fun, drinking tune "Alcohol You Later," and he closed his show with his breakthrough radio single "Drunk Me." "I wrote this song about a heartache, and I wanted to put a different twist to it," he said.
"Thank you so much guys," Tenpenny concluded, following the warm reception of "Drunk Me."
