It was hosted by NASH FM on-air personality Jesse Addy. “Good evening. Welcome to our house,” Addy exclaimed, prior to praising the New York audience for being the “most passionate country fans in America.”
“Hello,” Lambert said, in her sweet Texas accent. “How are y’all? I can’t run in heels,” she added, prior to thanking her fans for coming out tonight.
Lambert kicked off her NASH FM set with an old, chart-topping country single “Heart Like Mine,” where she was joined by Gwen Sebastian on harmonies, and Scotty Wray on acoustic guitar.
“Thank you,” she said, effusively, and she complimented her fans that were drinking wine. “Wine glasses are awesome, so we should be friends,” she said, and segued into “We Should Be Friends.”
She described the tune “To Learn Her” as one of her favorite songs from her latest studio album, The Weight of These Wings. “I do sing country music. That’s my heart and soul,” she admitted, and rightfully so. “Boys, take a listen,” she said, jokingly. The song had a vintage quality to it, coupled by her crisp traditional sounding vocals, and it was well-received by all.
“That was fun,” Lambert admitted. “Country music everybody!” she exclaimed. It was followed by yet another superb song, “Vice,” where she displayed her vulnerability as a singer-songwriter. Gwen Sebastian was delightful on harmonies and background vocals on this tune.
“Automatic” was the song that Lambert claimed as her personal favorite that she has ever written. The NASH FM crowd was reciting the lyrics of “Automatic” verbatim, as she dusted off this oldie but goodie.
Thank you. We have one more for you,” she said. The country superstar closed her six-song set with her latest radio single, “Tin Man,” which was sheer vocal perfection. Her band left the stage during this performance, and it was just Lambert and her acoustic guitar, where the result was magical. She shared that she wrote the song “Tin Man” during a sad time in her life, and this soulful vocal was filled with raw emotions. Although one could feel the melancholy in her voice, she sang it beautifully; moreover, if anybody has any doubts of who the 2017 “Female Vocalist of the Year” deserves to be at the upcoming Country Music Association (CMA) awards on November 8, all they need to do is see is a highlight reel of Lambert’s “Tin Man” performance at Stage 17. It was utterly fantastic, and it rightfully earned her a standing ovation from the fans.
Lambert expressed her gratitude, and concluded, “Thank you for supporting women in country music!”
The Verdict
Overall, Miranda Lambert put on a vivacious and bad-ass live performance at NASH FM’s Stage 17. Her heavenly vocals were controlled and impressive, thus showcasing her tremendous range as a recording artist. She truly is the heart and soul of contemporary country music, and she epitomizes the best that the genre has to offer: real songs, with touching lyrics and heart-warming stories. Lambert’s NASH FM 94.7 set garnered five out of five stars. Congratulations Miranda Lambert for a job well done.
Fellow country songstress Lauren Davidson, who was in attendance in the audience, remarked, “Miranda is a true songwriter, artist and role model for women in country music. Her performance was honest, raw and it gave me chills.”
