In this album, produced by Scott Hendricks, Ray pays homage to his late grandfather, Amos. The CD opens on an upbeat note with “Fan Girl” with its catchy hooks, and it is followed by the mid-tempo and refreshing “One That Got Away.” “Summer Water” is mellow and laid-back.
He maintains solid control over his voice on the album’s lead single “Get to You.”
“Forget About It” has a liberating vibe to it, and he tugs at the heart on the acoustic country ballad “Her World or Mine.” Equally fun is “I’m Gonna Miss You.”
“Dancing Forever” is another highlight track on the album, where his rich vocals are smooth as silk. It closes with the uplifting and infectious “Girl From Spring Break,” which would make a solid choice for a future radio single, as well as the carefree “Drink One For Me.”
Amos is available on iTunes.
The Verdict
Overall, Michael Ray is back with his most personal studio offering to date: Amos. It is a fitting tribute to his late grandfather. Each tune on this musical project has its own identity. Well done. Amos garners an A rating.
