Review: Martina McBride honors Lynn Anderson at Ryman Auditorium (Includes first-hand account)

In the middle of her set, McBride paid her respects to two of the biggest country music legends that we’ve lost in the past two years: Merle Haggard and Lynn Anderson.

After her cover of Merle Haggard’s “Today I Started Loving You Again,” she immediately broke into Lynn Anderson’s uplifting, signature tune “(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden,” which was one of the most exceptional vocals of the night, moving many fans and listeners to tears. Lynn Anderson herself, who was a huge fan of Martina McBride’s music, would have been smiling.

Martina McBride covered Lynn Anderson’s “(I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden” for her Timeless album, which was released in October of 2005.

Grammy-winning country queen Lynn Anderson passed away on July 30, 2015. At the 2016 Country Music Association (CMA) awards, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood honored the legacy of Lynn Anderson.
