Review: Luke Bryan superb at ‘Up Close and Country’ at NASH FM’s Stage 17 (Includes first-hand account)

The event was co-hosted by on-air personalities Katie Neal and Jesse Addy of NASH FM 94.7. “Wow,” Luke Bryan said, as he took the stage, where the response was tremendous. “How are we doing?” he asked, prior to praising Stage 17. “It sounds really good in here,” Bryan added.

Katie Neal noted that What Makes You Country marks Luke Bryan’s sixth studio album, and he has scored 18 No. 1 singles in his career, and hopefully, his latest single “Light It Up” would be his 19th chart-topper.

Speaking of “Light It Up,” Luke Bryan kicked off his set with that single, where he accompanied himself on acoustic guitar, and his three band members played acoustic guitar on this tune.

“Y’all kick it off as I hydrate,” he told his band, as Bryan took a sip of water. He continued with the infectious radio anthem “Play It Again,” which featured a killer ending, showcasing his mellifluous voice.

Bryan revealed to Jessy Addy and Katie Neal that his new album would be released on his 11-year wedding anniversary. “We’re making it,” he said.

It was followed by the new tune “Hooked On It,” which Bryan co-wrote with Dallas Davidson and David Lee Murphy. Bryan shared that the song was in the key of E.

The country heartthrob fulfilled a fan’s birthday request and sang “I Don’t Want This Night To End,” in her honor. He incorporated the song as a crowd singalong, and the fans put their hands up in the air. “Happy birthday,” he told her following the song.

He closed his five-song set with the title cut of his new album “What Makes You Country,” where he displayed his country pride and love for his roots, thus leaving his listeners yearning for more.

The Verdict

Overall, Luke Bryan put on a marvelous acoustic set at NASH FM 94.7’s Stage 17 in New York City. His catchy songs, coupled with his warm and humble personality resonated well with the New York audience. His set garnered an A rating.
