Review: Lisa Stansfield shows a ‘Deeper’ side to her music with new album (Includes first-hand account)

She collaborated on this project with long-time songwriting partner Ian Devaney. Stansfield also served as executive producer, along with Devaney, and Mark “Snowboy” Cotgrove.

Her album opens with the breathy “Everything,” which has a retro vibe to it, and it is followed by the rich and sultry “Twisted.” She picks up the pace with the seductive yet refreshing “Desire.” She proves to be one true song stylist on “Billionaire,” which is one of the highlight tracks on the CD; moreover, her storytelling ability is second to none.

Stansfield displays the wide range of her voice and artistry on “Coming up for Air,” while “Love of My Life” has a neat and catchy groove to it. In “Never Ever,” the listener can recall elements of disco and funk. “Just Can’t Help Myself” is addicting from start to finish, and quite expressive.

After the soulful title cut, the album closes with the funky “Butterflies” and she showcases her crisp, crystalline voice on “Ghetto Heaven.”

The songstress announced her North American fall tour, which kicks off on October 9, 2018, at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto, Ontario, and it wraps up on October 26 at The Fillmore in San Francisco, California. On October 13, she will be playing at The Space at Westbury in Westbury, New York, and on the following day, she will be performing at the Highline Ballroom in New York City.

Deeper is available on iTunes.
