article imageReview: Larger Than Life returns to Mulcahy's, all-girl group surprises Special

By Markos Papadatos     Sep 9, 2017 in Music
On September 8, the boys from Larger Than Life returned to Mulcahy's Pub and Concert Hall, and the girls of Sugar & Spice made a surprise appearance midway through their set.
Larger Than Life kicked off their set with their namesake song "Larger Than Life," and immediately continued with N SYNC's "Tearin' Up My Heart," but their set included more surprises along the way.
They did an exceptional Backstreet Boys medley of such smash hits as "Incomplete" and "Show Me the Meaning," both of which were delicate performances, filled with raw emotions. Chris Jehnert showcased his wide vocal range throughout the Backstreet Boys medley, and Devin Peacock and Edvin Ortega also rocked the vocals, and the same was true for Price's harmonies.
An added treat of the night was Toly Rod's cover of Justin Bieber and Luis Fonsi's "Despacito," where he helped bring that song to another level, and introduce it to a different generation of fans (the millennials of the 90's era). It is evident that Toly was made to sing Latin pop hits, and he does them well, whether it is Enrique Iglesias or Ricky Martin.
After Darude's "Sandstorm" instrumental introduction, the girls of Sugar & Spice (Amy, Caitlin and Malia) took the stage by singing such fun tunes as The Spice Girls' "Spice Up Your Life," thus changing the pace of the boy band set. They followed it up with TLC's "No Scrubs" and Destiny's Child's "Say My Name," where the crowd was singing along with them, especially on its catchy chorus. Equally fun was their nostalgic rendition of "Lady Marmalade" and the Destiny's Child anthem "Survivor," prior to closing with the infectious "Wannabe" from The Spice Girls. Their choreography matched to the tee.
The Verdict
Overall, Larger Than Life and Sugar & Spice put on an awesome, fun concert at Mulcahy's. Their first show back of September was a major success. Well done everybody.
"The boys never seem to amaze me but they put on a great show and I finally got my 'Despacito.' Loved how the guys got off stage and danced with everyone," said Tiffany Moriarty, fan and attendee.
Fan Gina Miller, echoed those remarks and added, "As always, the guys of Larger Than Life rocked the stage! They put on an amazing show and I like that they changed it up a bit and added some new songs, and also sang some girl band songs! I also liked that they got off the stage and were hanging out with the crowd! If you ever want to have a great night with a lot of fun definitely go and see the guys of Larger Than Life."
