article imageReview: Larger Than Life dazzles Mulcahy's with O-Town and Ryan Cabrera Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jul 30, 2017 in Music
Wantagh - Boy band Larger Than Life performed at Mulcahy's Pub and Concert Hall, where they opened for Airdate, Ryan Cabrera and O-Town. They put on a show-stopping performance.
"Long Island, New York, are we ready to have a good time tonight," founding member Edvin Ortega said. "Let me hear you scream!" he exclaimed, and they opened with their namesake song, "Larger Than Life," which featured Toly belting out the high note in the end. "Put your hands together," Edvin said, and they immediately broke into N SYNC's "Tearin' Up My Heart." "Make some noise," they said.
"Whose ready to have a good time tonight?" they asked, and all the fans cheered loudly. They continued with their "Dirty Medley" and Blackstreet's "No Diggity."
They dressed to impress on their New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men medleys, where the highlight vocals included "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" and "Step By Step," where they had the New Kids' dance moves to the tee. They also praised the follow-up acts Airdate, Ryan Cabrera and O-Town, all of which would be taking the stage next. Devil nailed the Boyz II Men ballads, especially the romantic "I'll Make Love To You," with his sultry voice, which was custom-made for the R&B/soul genre.
Larger Than Life did The Four Seasons justice with "Walk Like a Man," and Chris delighted on "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" with his velvet vocals.
"Let's get crazy out there," Edvin exclaimed, and they immediately broke into the Bee Gees' "You Should Be Dancing." They encouraged their fans to sing along with them on 98 Degrees' "Because of You," which was a neat collaboration between Edvin and Devin, and Toly, Price and Chris soared on the harmony parts.
Chris' best vocal of the night was his vivacious version of Zayn's "Pillowtalk," and they had fun on such throwback hits as Hanson's "MMMBop" and BBMak's "Back Here." They made LFO proud with "Summer Girls" and "Girl on TV."
After an outfit change, they returned for the Backstreet Boy portion of the show with "Everybody," where they asked everybody to put their hands up, as well as "I Want It That Way" and N SYNC's "Dirty Pop." The lovey dovey part of the show kicked off with "As Long as You Love Me," featuring Larger Than Life's falsetto, and "Quit Playing Games (with My Heart)." Their choreography skills were top-notch on "It's Gonna Be Me" and "Bye Bye Bye." An added bonus was the inclusion of One Direction's "That's What Makes You Beautiful."
The Verdict
Overall, Larger Than Life was once again superb at Mulcahy's. It was great to see them perform at an earlier time (8 p.m.) as they shared the stage with Airdate, Ryan Cabrera and O-Town. Last week, their show was hosted by Joey Fatone from N SYNC, who joined Larger Than Life on stage for a few songs, and they have been on a roll ever since. The sky's the limit for these talented boys. Well done. Two giant thumbs up! Yeah!
Fan Gina Miller remarked, "Larger Than Life was amazing! They are definitely the boy band to see in 2017." Deana Galatro said, "Larger Than Life never disappoints! As a single mother of a five-year-old boy, they are one of the only reasons I get out. Some moms jog, some take zumba, I go to see Larger Than Life." Fellow fan Tiffany Moriarty echoed the previous remarks remarks. "I had such an amazing night! Everything was so great," Moriarty said, about Larger Than Life's set.
