Review: Larger Than Life awesome on ‘A Boyband Story’ documentary (Includes first-hand account)

They take their fans on a journey through the trials and tribulations that it takes for one to make it in the contemporary entertainment and music scene. Larger Than Life started as the brainchild of Edvin Ortega and choreographer John Wagner. Most impressive about this group is that they are able to cover songs from The Temptations, 5 Seconds of Summer, Boyz II Men, N SYNC, Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees over the course of their nightly set, which puts them in a league of their own.

Larger Than Life founder Edvin Ortega did a brilliant job on the documentary’s direction, and narrating his story. Brian Melso was equally remarkable on editing, as well as for his direction of photography, and music supervision. The film features a cameo from actor Keith Collins, and stage manager Matthew Argenti. In many ways, it is reminiscent of a Vh1 “Behind The Music” episode, since it allows the viewer to get to know them on a more intimate level, and there’s a comeback portion in the end. All of the band members (Edvin, Toly, Devin and Chris) ought to be commended for their drive, as well as for showcasing their passion for their craft, and desire to succeed in the tumultuous music industry.

Band member Chris Jehnert said it best, where for him, music truly is a way of life, and something that brings him joy and contentment.

Even through the hard times, Larger Than Life is able to push through and persevere, and they are able to look at every experience as just another valuable lesson in life. One thing is for sure. Their dedicated fans will have their backs through thick and thin. In this documentary, super-fans Denise Cirolia and Loretta Cassidy open up about their love for the group, and explain why they admire them so much, as musicians and genuine individuals.

Most importantly, Larger Than Life has tipped their hats to all of the boy bands and artists that have influenced them growing up, including N SYNC, Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees, especially founding member Jeff Timmons. They underscored the importance of believing!

Larger Than Life: A Boyband Story is available for streaming on Amazon.

The Verdict

Overall, Larger Than Life is living proof that anything is possible, if one puts in the hard work, passion, dedication, teamwork and marketing efforts. They are able to sustain the audience’s attention for the entire 46 minute duration. Their original song “Brand New Day” is an added treat. Larger Than Life deserves a round of applause for their work ethic. They are an inspiration for all young and aspiring entertainers out there. This film is recommended for every pop, music or boy band fan out there. There is something in it for everybody. The band members truly outdid themselves on this film, and they showcased a lot of heart. Larger Than Life: A Boyband Story garners an A+ rating.
