Review: Kiefer Sutherland delivers on new country album ‘Down in a Hole’ (Includes first-hand account)

Sutherland’s new CD opens with the smooth and bluesy “Can’t Stay Away” and it is followed by the mid-tempo yet authentic “Truth in Your Eyes.” Equally moving is the gorgeous ballad I’ll Do Anything,” which is reminiscent of a Zac Brown Band tune.

His lead single “Not Enough Whiskey” showcases his rich, gruff voice, and it is an impressive debut. He displays his country-rock side on the mid-tempo “Going Home.” “Calling Out Your Name” is another raspy vocal performance, with a laid-back vibe to it.

It continues with the unapologetic “My Best Friend” and the melodically-stunning “Shirley Jean.” The album closes with “All She Wrote,” the title track “Down in a Hole” and on a haunting note with “Gonna Die.”

Down in a Hole is available on iTunes.

The Verdict

Overall, Kiefer Sutherland stuns on his breakthrough country album Down in a Hole. It is a bad-ass musical effort from start to finish. There is a lot of variety on this project, and it is evident that it was a labor of love. It garners an A rating.
