article imageReview: Katy Perry disappoints on new album — Weakest CD to date Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jun 17, 2017 in Music
Pop superstar Katy Perry has released her new studio album "Witness," and it is by far her weakest studio effort to date.
It opens on a weak note with the explicit title track, and it is followed with the equally forgettable "Hey Hey Hey," which at first glance appears to be something that could have been written by a kindergartner.
The only mediocre track from the first half of the album is "Roulette," and from the latter half the only solid tune would be her lead single "Chained To The Rhythm," where she is joined with Skip Marley. Her collaboration with Nicki Minaj on "Swish Swish" was a complete mess. It closes with the disappointing "Pendulum," and with the boring ballad "Into Me You See."
Her previous albums Teenage Dream and Prism were far more superior, and leaps and bounds better.
The Verdict
Overall, Katy Perry flops on this lackluster album. From start to finish, it is a total sell-out. It lacks the energy and charisma that Perry has been known for all these years. The vast majority of this collection is comprised of filler tracks, and they lack originality and strong lyrics. This journalist's suggestion would be to download the only two decent tracks "Chain To The Rhytm" and "Roulette" and skip the rest. Witness garners two out of five stars.
