article imageReview: Joan Jett — The Queen of Rock returns home to Jones Beach Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jun 30, 2018 in Music
Wantagh - On June 29, 2018, Joan Jett and her band, The Blackhearts, headlined the Northwell Health Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York.
Jett shared the stage with Tesla and Styx, and delivered a memorable hometown show on Long Island.
It was great to hear her rock classic "Bad Reputation," where the fans sang along every word. They delivered soaring rendition of the spitfire "Cherry Bomb," and "Do You Wanna Touch Me," with its infectious "oh yeah" hooks, where everybody was taking deep breaths.
The rock goddess showcased attitude and growl in "Victim of Circumstance." In the first half of their set, they performed this journalist's personal favorite song "Soulmates to Strangers," which is found on her Unvarnished album. That was quite the pleasant surprise.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer took the fans and listeners on a trip down memory lane to the late '70s, with "You Drive Me Wild," which was the first song that she wrote as part of The Runaways. The Blackhearts were able to tip their hats to Bruce Springsteen with "Light of Day," and the same was true for her upbeat, rocking version of "Love Is All Around," the theme song of the The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
"I Love Rock 'n' Roll" became the anthem for Jones Beach last night, where the rock queen took over the venue, and musically transformed it into "Joan's Beach." They closed with "Crimson & Clover," and her unapologetic signature tune "I Hate Myself for Loving You."
"Joan Jett was great. She closed the night with some favorites and made me get up and dance," said Carol Barnett, rock fan and attendee.
