article imageReview: Jesse Ruben delivers on 'Today' show debut with 'We Can' Special

By Markos Papadatos     Feb 10, 2017 in Music
New York - Singer-songwriter Jesse Ruben made his television debut on the "Today" show, where he sang his inspirational tune "We Can."
It is no wonder that Ruben is one of Hoda Kotb's favorite singers. This is one song that will truly warm people's hearts (especially children) due to its moving and uplifting message. His entire family was there at the Today show studio supporting him, and he nailed the performance.
Ruben performed "We Can" solo, accompanied by his acoustic guitar and rich, baritone vocals. He manages to sing from the heart, and he is able to make a strong connection with his listening audience and fans.
In the song's music video, one of the most bittersweet moments was when the schoolchildren were singing along with him towards the end.
The Verdict
Overall, Jesse Ruben earned an A rating for "We Can." Ruben's vocals are slightly reminiscent of John Mayer meets Dave Matthews Band. He is such an underrated singer-songwriter and he is worth seeing live in concert. Last year, he opened for American Idol winner Kris Allen at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City, and he was able to deliver. It is one of his best songs since "This Is Why I Need You."
"We Can" is available on iTunes.
