article imageReview: Jennifer Nettles soars on new 'To Celebrate Christmas' album Special

By Markos Papadatos     Oct 30, 2016 in Music
Country songstress Jennifer Nettles (of Sugarland) released her newest album, "To Celebrate Christmas" via her label, Big Machine Records.
Julian Raymond served as its producer. The CD opens with the mid-tempo and cheery "Go Tell It On The Mountain" and she collaborates with R&B darling Andra Day on "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," which is rich and sultry.
A true gem is "Little Drummer Boy," where she sings with Broadway queen Idina Menzel. Her cover of "Celebrate Me Home" is bittersweet and filled with nostalgia. "Circle of Love" displays her calming voice in a delicate performance.
Nettles' version of "Do You Hear What I Hear" is piercing and memorable, while "Count Your Blessings Instead Of Sheep" is another moving ballad. "O Holy Night" showcases her harking voice, and the collection closes with the soothing "Merry Christmas With Love," and her cover of "The First Noel."
The Verdict
Overall, Jennifer Nettles stuns on her newest 10-track holiday CD. It garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
To Celebrate Christmas is available on Amazon.
