article imageReview: Jeff Timmons and Larger Than Life fantastic at Mulcahy's Special

By Markos Papadatos     Jan 27, 2018 in Music
Wantagh - On January 26, Larger Than Life performed at Mulcahy's Pub and Concert Hall on Long Island, with special musical guest Jeff Timmons, the founding member of 98 Degrees, as host.
"Mulcahy's!" Timmons exlaimed. "Y'all ready to have a good time? We are about to do the impossible: transition from disco night into a 90's boy band night. I heard these nights are quite successful because of all of you. Larger Than Life are going to rock the house, any maybe I'll do some good songs with them, if you guys are willing and ready for me to do them as well. First, I am going to ask you to migrate all the way to the front of the stage. These guys are ready and excited to kill it for you."
Timmons continued, "Y'all ready for them? I see some familiar faces out there. I appreciate you all for being here! Have a good time. The staff is great, the drinks are great and have some fun! Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for Larger Than Life. Let's go! Make some noise."

Larger Than Life is comprised of Edvin, Chris, Price and Andre. They kicked off their set with their namesake tune "Larger Than Life," where Price belted out the high note towards the end, and they immediately broke into NSYNC's "Tearin' Up My Heart."
"I am honored to be up here on stage with them, paying tribute to generation after generation of good music," Timmons acknowledged. They had the audience waving their hands up in the air during the 98 Degrees classic "Because of You," and they incorporated the song as a singalong, which resonated well with the 90's fans. Timmons' velvet voice blended well with Edvin and Chris' rich harmonies, and they produced one true vocal event.
"Are you guys having fun?" Timmons inquired, and the answer from the Mulcahy's audience was a resounding "yeah!"
Larger Than Life and Timmons serenaded a lucky Long Island girl to the stunning 98 Degrees ballad "I Do (Cherish You)," which was a real treat.
For their encore, Larger Than Life closed with the infectious "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)," where Timmons showed off a few of his dance moves towards the end.
"I absolutely loved every minute of the show," said Sara Anne Fingerman, the marketing and PR manager of The Garden City Hotel. "Each cover Larger than Life sang brought back so many memories of different points in my teenage years. It was 1999 all over again. I love how eclectic they are, and they covered other genres in addition to 90's music. They are captivating singers, talented dancers and they filled the room with a great deal of energy! We had the honor of hosting dinner for Jeff Timmons at The Garden City Hotel pre-show. He is a gracious and humble individual and an amazing performer! I can't wait to see Larger Than life again on February 16."
The Verdict
Overall, Larger Than Life's show with Jeff Timmons at Mulcahy's Pub and Concert Hall was uplifting, entertaining and nostalgic. All performers showcased their warm and genuine personalities, as well as their zest for their craft. They commanded the stage well and they brought their audience back to a simpler time. Their live set earned five out of five stars for an excellent performance.
