His album opens with the title track “Rising Tide,” which has a calming and mellow vibe to it, and it is followed by the haunting ballad, “Twelve on Sunday,” for which he released a music video for that may be seen below. “Could be she went for a walk, could be she needed fresh air, maybe that will calm her down, you should see what’s left of her room,” Elle sings, in the opening verse of “Twelve on Sunday.”
Elle picks up the pace with the mid-tempo tune “You Got Away,” which has a retro 80’s vibe to it.
The EP closes with “All Through The Night,” which has a rock edge to it, as well as the guitar-driven “Way Down The Road,” where the listener is left wanting to hear more, which is always a good thing.
The Verdict
Overall, there is a lot of variety on Jay Elle’s new EP Rising Tide. This debut collection encompasses elements of pop, rock, blues, adult contemporary and urban-folk music. This New York-based moody musician proves to be one well-rounded entertainer, especially since he writes his own lyrics, melodies and he even plays the guitar on this project. Rising Tide earns four out of five stars, and it is worth well more than just a passing glance.
