Review: Granger Smith amazing on new country album When The Good Guys Win (Includes first-hand account)

The new Granger Smith CD opens with the mid-tempo “Gimme Something,” which is a breath of fresh air, and it continues with the spitfire anthem “You’re In It.” “Raise Up Your Glass” is one of those ballads that will certainly resonate well in the live setting, when he performs it live for the fans, as he displays his soft side.

His radio single, “Happens Like That” is making its way up the Billboard Hot Country Airplay charts. The country singer-songwriter shows some attitude on “Still Holds Up,” and the uplifting title cut “When the Good Guys Win” is another gem.

The moving lyrics to “Everybody Lives” truly tug at the heart, where the listener ought to have the Kleenex handy. “Stutter” is a song that many of his fans and listeners can relate to, especially those in a relationship. He showcases his liberating side on the youthful “Never Too Old,” while “Love Ain’t Blind” is sung with maximum soul.

After the rocking “Reppin’ My Roots,” the CD closes with the witty “Don’t Tread on Me,” where his alter ego Earl Dibbles Jr. makes a cameo. Smith serenades his fans to “Home Cooked Meal,” thus leaving them thirsty for more music.

On January 18, 2018, Smith will be headlining Irving Plaza in New York City.

The Verdict

Overall, Granger Smith is stunning on his newest studio effort, When The Good Guys Win. There is something in it for everybody, and all of the songs on here are keepers. Smith never disappoints. It garners an A rating.

When The Good Guys Win is available on Amazon and on iTunes.
