Review: Gary Clark Jr. exceptional at Madison Square Garden in New York (Includes first-hand account)

He began his set with the bluesy “Can’t Stop Loving You,” and it was followed by the crisp and haunting “Bright Lights” and “Cold Blooded.”

Clark Jr. continued with such noteworthy tunes as “Our Love,” “When My Train Pulls In” and “Numb.” The Texas native closed his show with “The Healing” and “Shake,” thus leaving his listening audience thirsty for more.

Most impressive about Gary Clark Jr. is that there were no gimmicks. Just a man with a natural talent, who was able to let the music speak for itself.

In addition, he joined Clapton for his encore performance of “Before You Accuse Me” during his headlining set, along with fellow opener, Grammy-winning musician Jimmie Vaughan.

The Verdict

Overall, Gary Clark Jr. was able to deliver at his show at Madison Square Garden. His voice was as smooth as silk, and he was able to warm up the stage for Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Eric Clapton.

Gary Clark Jr.’s music is available on iTunes.
