Review: Enrique Iglesias electrifies Madison Square Garden in New York (Includes first-hand account)

Both global music stars played for an excellent turnout, and the stage was graced in vibrant laser lights. Iglesias kicked off his set on a high-energy note with “Súbeme la radio,” and equally fun was “I’m a Freak,” where he showed that it was all right to not take himself too seriously.

Iglesias continued with “I Like How It Feels” and “”Duele el corazón,” prior to taking his fans on a trip down memory lane to his breakthrough single in America with the chart-topper “Bailamos.” His energy level was tremendous as he was running from each side of the stage to interact with the fans during this performance. It was great to hear Iglesias serenade the audience in Spanish during the acoustic portion of the show, where he sang in the middle of the venue.

It was followed by the infectious “Be With You,” which was certainly a fan-favorite vocal. “Escape” was fun and liberating, while ”
Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You)” was another steamy performance, where towards the end, he sang the censored version of the title, “Tonight (I’m Fucking You).”

The highlight vocal of the night was his emotional rendition of “Hero,” which he revealed to the crowd that he wrote 17 years ago. The emotion he poured into his song “Hero” was incredible, and he was moved in return, and he had the fans light up Madison Square Garden with their iPhones, as he rose on an elevated platform in the middle of the venue.

On the way back to the main stage, he sang “El perdón” and the dance anthem “Bailando,” prior to closing with “I Like It.” “I fucking love you New York,” Iglesias concluded, and it is safe to say that New York loved him as well.

The Verdict

Overall, Enrique Iglesias gave his heart and soul to his New York audience at Madison Square Garden. The girls and ladies were beguiled by him all night, and they were doing everything to touch him at any moment he got close to them. He is one natural entertainer. His live co-headlining show with Pitbull garnered an A rating.
