They kicked off their set with the Journey classic “Any Way You Want It,” where they were instantly able to lure their listeners from the first verse. Their take on Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” was impressive, as the audience in the venue was singing along.
Genessa showcased her tremendous pipes on Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” and her version of Pat Benatar’s “Shadows of the Night” was exceptional: she started the song a cappella, and belted out the rock ballad in full force.
She showed the growl and rasp in the voice on Benatar’s “Love is a Battlefield,” and “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” was equally powerful and infectious, as yellow and red lights dimmed from the stage. “Alright. C’mon,” she said, midway through the song, and she had the crowd with her every step of the way. It is evident that Genessa was born to sing rock music.
They continued with Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop,” Queen’s classic rock tune “Under Pressure,” The Outfield’s “Your Love.” “Are you ready to dance silly?” they asked, and even threw in a fun cover of “Footloose.”
