Review: David Frizzell and Jeannie Seely delight on Merle Haggard classic (Includes first-hand account)

“Ladies and gentlemen, would you welcome my friend Jeannie Seely,” David Frizzell said, and they immediately broke into the acoustic guitar-driven traditional country ballad “Nobody’s Darlin’ But Mine.”

Midway through the song, it includes exceptional fiddle and steel guitar solos, prior to Seely singing her solo parts. They have sung it with the same amount of time and conviction that Merle Haggard had invested in it.

Their version is controlled and heartfelt, coupled with Frizzell’s rich, baritone voice and Seely’s haunting vocals. Both David Frizzell and Jeannie Seely epitome what country music is all about: moving lyrics and sincere storytelling.

The Verdict

Overall, David Frizzell and Jeannie Seely do “Nobody’s Darlin’ But Mine” justice. The late songwriter Jimmie Davis would have been proud of this timeless rendition. Their soaring version garners an A rating.
