Review: Crystal Gayle releases amazing country album ‘You Don’t Know Me’ (Includes first-hand account)

This marks her first studio album in 16 years, which was co-produced, recorded and mixed by her son Christos Gatzimos. It was released via Southpaw Musical Productions, and it is being distributed by BFD in partnership with The Orchard.

The album opens with the mid-tempo “Ribbon of Darkness,” and it is followed by the throwback country classic “You Win Again,” which features her rich, crystalline voice.

“Please Help Me, I’m Falling” features soothing harmonies and “Am I That Easy to Forget?” is comprised of conversational lyrics and raw emotions. She delivers an exceptional cover of Patsy Cline’s “Walking After Midnight” and equally moving is her rendition of George Jones’ “Just One More.”

After the piano-driven title cut “You Don’t Know Me,” it closes with “Put It Off Until Tomorrow,” her collaboration with her sisters, Country Music Hall of Famer Loretta Lynn and Peggy Sue, as well as the haunting yet expressive “I’ve Cried the Blue (Right Out of My Eyes).”

Particularly impressive about “Put It Off Until Tomorrow” is that this was the first time Lynn, Gayle, and Sue are featured together in a recorded collaboration.

You Don’t Know Me is available on Apple Music and on Spotify.

The Verdict

Overall, Crystal Gayle is sensational on her new album, You Don’t Know Me, which is country as grits. Grab a bottle of wine and let this country queen lure you in with her timeless voice. Every song is polished and unique. This CD garners an A rating.
