This was a fitting homage to her late father, especially coming right after this year’s Father’s Day celebration.
The iconic rocker’s daughter has also pledged to donate her proceeds from the song to the International Rescue Committee on June 20 (World Refugee Day), in a similar fashion as Cornell did with the proceeds from his final music video for “The Promise.”
Particularly impressive about the International Rescue Committee is that it responds to the globe’s most difficult humanitarian crises, and it helps to restore health, safety, education, and economic well-being, to the people that have been adversely affected by disaster and challenges.
In April of 2017, Toni Cornell and her family toured Greece and the refugee camps along with the International Rescue Committee, and it was then that her parents decided that their foundation, The Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation, focuses on child refugees, as well as homeless, poor, or neglected children.
Their version of the classic Prince-penned song (“Nothing Compares to U”) was heartfelt, moving and expressive. It deserves more than just a passing glance by all fans of Chris Cornell and rock music.
Toni noted that her father, the late but great Chris Cornell, taught her to be a voice for others who are not able to have one. “With the tragic events happening today, where children are being separated from their parents at the border, it is not okay,” she said, and encouraged people to help them keep the promise and help the world’s most vulnerable children, in honor of her father and his memory.
Their haunting rendition of “Nothing Compares 2 U” is available on iTunes, and on Spotify.
