Review: Chicago marvelous at Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk (Includes first-hand account)

They tackled all of their classic hits with ease and charisma. These staples included “Alive Again,” “Wake Up Sunshine,” “Call on Me,” as well as the mellow “If You Leave Me Now.” The highlight performance of the night was ‘You’re The Inspiration,” featuring Jeff Coffey’s rumbling vocals, where purple lights graced the stage. “Beginnings” was superb from start to finish and the same was true for “I’m a Man.”

Equally fun was the lengthy “25 or 6 to 4,” which was an instrumental masterclass. “Hard Habit To Break” was nostalgic and they showcased their patriotic spirit of “Free,” with the American flag displaying on their giant televised screen.

Chicago is a hard-working band that one never gets tired of seeing in a live setting. Their songs are well-crafted and captivating, and their music will never go out of style. They are truly a part of the American Songbook.

The Verdict

Overall, Chicago put on a fantastic live set at the Ford Amphitheater in Coney Island. They had their energized fans with them every step of the way. While their songs were similar to ones they played earlier this summer at the Jones Beach Theater, they were able to play for a much smaller audience of 5,000 fans, which made it very intimate. Their live show in Brooklyn garnered an A rating.
